Repairing and Recoating a Failed Floor

The floor that's already peeling, bubbling or lifting — usually from a DIY kit or a coating that skipped prep the first time.

The most common reason someone calls about a failed floor is a big-box DIY kit that was rolled on after an acid etch instead of a mechanical grind, and it started lifting at the tire tracks within a season or two. The fix is not another coat on top — whatever kept the first layer from bonding is still there, and a new layer on an unprepped surface fails the same way.

The right approach is to figure out why it failed before doing anything else: was it prep, was it moisture coming up through the slab, was it hot tire pickup on a system that wasn't rated for it. That diagnosis determines whether the old coating needs to be fully ground off, whether a moisture test is warranted before recoating, and what system actually holds up this time instead of repeating the same failure a year later.
